The 17th Sunday after Pentecost: Metropolitan Vladimir celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau

Metropolitan Vladimir of Chisinau and all Moldova celebrated the Divine Liturgy in the Nativity of the Lord Cathedral in Chisinau on the 18th Sunday after Pentecost.

The arch-pastor was assisted at the service by archpriest Vadim Cheibas, metropolitan secretary and Cathedral Dean, and the clergy of the holy place.

The Gospel Reading on this Sunday speaks about the resurrection of the son of a widow in Nain. The holy apostle Luke says that the Lord “had compassion on her and said to her ‘Do not weep’”, and then ordered to the dead young man to rise, making the multitudes present to fear and wonder who He was if He was able to order the dead to rise (Luke 7: 11-16).

This inspiring Gospel story underlines that Lord Jesus Christ is the beginning of life, compassion, and love.

Just like many other Bible stories, apart from direct meaning, this one has a deeper, allegoric sense. The dead youth, the only son of his widowed mother, is compared to us, the humanity in the consequence of sin. We can only rise for the mercy of God and with the prayers of our mother Church. We can become true human beings only if we weep for our souls and seek true Life – our Lord Jesus Christ.
